Real Testimonies from Real People

Marty Gunter's Testimony

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I started attending the Nazarene Church when I was 12 years old. Like most teens, I went to the alter many times. But when I was 14 I truly asked God to come into my heart and save me, to forgive me and be my personal savior, and he did. I believe that with all my heart. But as many teens do I did not hold true. I did things that were not pleasing to God. Many times, I had to ask God to take control again because I failed. God never failed me. Fast forward to June 1994. I am 25 now, been in and out of a lot of trouble. Luckily all before I was 18. Nothing on my adult record. I was sitting on a park bench in the city park and I begged God to help me one last time to send me someone. July I met my wife Patti.  We went on our first date July 23, 1994, fell in love and were married on September 30, 1994. We will soon celebrate our 24th anniversary. I left the church around 18 and just wandered, but when I met my wife she was a good influence. We have been back in this church our whole marriage. In 2011 we lost my mom and dad in a tornado. We had never had kids of our own. My mom and dad had adopted a 9 month baby girl named Chloe.  She was 8 when we lost our parents. She came to live with us, and we are raising her now as our own. She is now 15 and I realized how much kids need help with God in their lives. Our church was looking for a youth director, and I asked if they would give me a chance. They did. I have been doing this job for a little over a year now, and I love it. I would love to see our youth group grow and also our church.

Jackie Tippins' Testimony

I grew up in the church and my whole family was active in different areas for many, many years. I was saved as a child but struggled to live a Christian life until I renewed my commitment to God in a revival as an adult. Some time after I was sanctified. I love the Lord and strive to live a Christ like life.

Susan Wade's Testimony

As a child I was extremely shy and fearful! I went to church and got use to my Sunday school class and teacher with my grandmothers help.  My teacher taught me the hymn “Jesus Loves Me” and helped me get in the Children’s Choir. We sang in church 4 times a year. When we sang we had to stay in church for the entire service.  I was too young to understand the preacher's sermons and was bored. The fact that I was shy paid off. I paid attention and learned all the Bible stories in Sunday school. The church was large and had beautiful stained glass windows. I knew all the stories except one, and those windows kept me busy during the sermon.

One Sunday the pastor noticed me. Somehow he knew I was sure of all of the stories except one.  He looked out at the congregation and told them he had to stop his sermon right now. I thought I was in trouble, because I had been turning in my seat to look at the windows. He told all those people about how knowledgeable I was about them. He told them I only lacked one story, and he had to tell me that story right now.  He looked right at me and told me the story of  “The Lost Lamb”. When he was done he went right back to his sermon. You know, the one I couldn’t understand. But he had made all those people wait while he told me a story. Something happened in my heart that day that changed me. God would later finish this work in the middle of my living room when the Holy Spirit entered my whole body. I have learned God will always be with me. People may disappoint us but God will not.
